Arguments from the heart, Pathos.
Pathos are such a strong way to argue something. Just the other day I was watching Oprah and it was all about Puppy Mills. It had to of been one of the saddest ads I had ever seen. The point was to encourage people to start adopting dogs and rescue them from being slaughtered. Obviously in the ad they showed the sickest and skinniest of the dogs. Oprah said that after the first time that ad was shown the increase of people adopting dogs across the world rose significantly. It is amazing to me how an ad like that could really get people going. Honestly I was even moved by it and I personally don’t like dogs that much. This ad was truly able to pull an emotion out of every type of population out there.

(Your picture is so cute, by the way!)
I've seen that Oprah, but not the whole thing, I started crying and had to turn it off. That was a little too much pathos for me. You (and Oprah's statistic) are correct, it made me feel like I NEEDED to go out and adopt a puppy, or twelve! Too bad I couldn't get away with a dog in my dorm room!
I have seen that Oprah too!! I watch Oprah almost every single day because I feel like she always talks about issues that need to be more spoken about. Just as you and Shannon said, that ad made me feel like I needed to go out and adopt a puppy as well. I believe that ads with pictures can be more emotionally appealling than just words because in pictures we can actually see the sadness in someone's eyes.
I have not seen that Oprah but I can imagine what it is like and can see all of the ladies in the audience crying. It seems this would be a very effective ad and they chose the right audience to show this to.
That is pretty wild. Those commercials are good, but none have ever moved me enough to actually go out do what they are asking. Guess that's just me though.
